Why Does The Word Worship Bother Me so Much?

Images of myself sitting at someone’s feet in continuous homage while they express their love to me as I obey their every desire. Prostrating routinely as they enter my presence so I can give sips of wine and hand feed grapes placing one at a time in the mouth of a superior being while softly singing songs of praise and greatness. Blessed be thy name oh holy god. All the while being very conscious not to mention any of the other gods, for my sweet everlasting is a jealous god and vengeance is looming. Eternal reverence and adoration. How heavenly as we look down at all the suffering fools that didn’t believe while coddling the majesty. Anyone want to join me in worship? 6:00 Tuesday PST. BYOB.

  1. I see more and more Christians trying to return to follow Jesus and not religion. That’s a way better scenario I’m my opinion than 400,000 member brainwashed congregation in South Korea and the shuck and jive mega churches and their scientific displays of mind controlling the weak or unsuspecting. Great comment dear.

  2. Hi friend:-)<3 This is not a typical blog-post that I would leave a comment. All because there is no way I could get anywhere. Here, goes nothing. I think worship in the sense you are describing is a misunderstanding. To understand fully what I consider plausible you have to wait for the book;-) It does include science and research. For this thought experiment though consider God as One. Think of us humans supposed to be connected to his oneness. A co-existence where all options are good and according to a greater good. Worship means love for everybody in this case. Serving each other humbly in love. God the creator in all of this I suspect just wants us to be grateful and happy for his gifts. Now, I know that the world and the universe is somewhat a messed up place. I think the connection to God is lost and something went wrong. Love, Isabella

  3. Domestic abusers often want to be fawned over…Religion is pretty much just a huge domestic abuser.

The idea that a god would even want worship is pretty disgusting. Do you have kids so that they can constantly thank you for having them? No Parents don’t expect worship from their children, or at least they shouldn’t and neither would a god if it existed.

  4. The end scene of “Life of Brian” is the best ever filmed. Glad somebody posted a link to it with the best song ever on film.
I worshipped the cats who shared my home with me. Hell, they demand such, but in return give gave me head boops, and much comfort. Also, they’d end up around me when I was asleep, didn’t need much for blankets even in winter, just 6 plus cats.
Oh, you meant worship as in worship some doG? Well, tough beans and hard cheese to that crapola.

  5. I feel this is more of a hostage situation than a love situation. Sort of a domestic abuse situation. Think of it, walking on eggshells to not displease or get punished, trying to please someone with ultimate unrestrained power over you. Yes this would be hell. And to have to keep it up for eternity. Horrifying. Lucky it is not reality and is only a man made myth from the imaginations of a people long gone. Sadly it is kept alive by people too fearful or imaginative to face the reality that this life is what you make it, all there is, and that death is a final end with no second chance on the stage. Be well. Hugs

  6. It bothers me too. Some years ago I was helping out a the local UU, we had a group doing some work on their furniture. After working awhile, the pastor that was there said “Let’s take a break, and gather over here.” “What for?” “Worship” he said. “Thank you no, I’ll just keep working.”

Now even though the UU version of “worship” does not involve anything like prostration before a tyrant god, just the use that word was enough to tell me that I needed to opt out.

    1. It is the pure version though. Kind of a Muslim feel to it in the scripture. O come, let us worship and bow down: let us kneel before the Lord our maker.”
      ‭‭Psalms‬ ‭95:6‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“O worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness: fear before him, all the earth.”
      ‭‭Psalms‬ ‭96:9‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“Exalt ye the Lord our God, and worship at his footstool; for he is holy.”
      ‭‭Psalms‬ ‭99:5‬ ‭KJV‬‬
