The “Holy”Rivers

This, by Professor Taboo, five years ago is more relevant today than ever before. “Over at least the last four centuries the Holy River has become the most polluted river in the world.  The very children, who suckle from her spiritual nipples, turn around and contaminate the very milk from which they suck oblivious to how tainted their holy water has become from the headwater of the Himalayas to the poisonous outfall into the Bay of Bengal.     Let us hope that more and more reasonable, intelligent humans will actually USE their magnifying lenses and microscopes, so to speak, to test and question, and retest and requestion and calmly scrutinize their ideologies, pathologies, and comfort zones, eh? That’s how the human race progresses, survives, and evolves. We all know what happens or will happen if we don’t. 😉

    1. Religion has a blinding and careless outcome. Casting blame and all the while, it is by far the most corrupt institution with the worst results, yet here we are. Just look around. We are having another record wet spring, and we’ll be in fire season in May. This corruption and effect are obvious, yet continue to be denied. Astonishing!

        Funny you say that. At this very moment I’m watching on PBS “NOVA: Decoding the Weather Machine.” And for several reasons, religions being a major contributor, most Climate Change deniers are Conservative and religious, often anti-science. :/

          2. You’re right Mary. I find that to be incredibly naive. Why? Because PBS stands for and is an acronym for Public Broadcasting System often funded by another non-profit entity called CPB, the Corporation for Public Broadcating, and then all working because of (non-profit) PUBLIC funding!!! IOW, this money and is coming from our DEMOCRATIC population of American citizens (i.e. a democracy for those idiots that might think I’m talking about a political party), people… which also includes a variety of your Republicans and other (moderate?) Conservatives! How much more American, more democratic “for the people by the people” can you get!? 🤩 🇺🇸

            And OH BTW zealots & ultra-Repubs… PBS has been broadcasting successfully for almost 50-years not taking a dime from any taxpayers you naive taxpayers!!! Geeeezzzz. 😒

  3. There are many holy rivers which look unholy, yes. As spiritual as we are from within, we fail to maintain the holiness outside. To be honest, I could never dip myself in the rivers because they’re covered with filth. So many people taking bath at a time using soaps, washing clothes with detergents, some spit in it. It’s hard to get anything good going keeping in mind the sheer number of people visiting those places. Since thousands visit, it’s hard to clean them every day which is a very expensive process even for the government. I have no belief in a water body’s holiness when they’re contaminated. Religion never taught neatness, did it?😂

      1. No burials in the river, as far as I know. There are multiple burial grounds of historical importance in Varanasi. I don’t think anyone dumps dead bodies in the river. Haha.
        But Ganga is the most polluted river in India, that I am sure of. If what you say is true, I have to look into it. Nobody likes to change age old traditions fearing the wrath of God. According to what my elders told me, anyone who dies in Kasi is fortunate because they travel straight to heaven, to lord Shiva. So anyone who’s religious believes in heaven and hell and such traditions can’t be changed unless proved wrong or catastrophic.

      In order for better recruitment, obedience (ruling), and growing the religion/faith, you need to first create an urgency, a chaos factor, a Devil/Satan and horrible evil world that is dying and represents death. Sales & Marketing 101 right there.

        We have multiple gods and devils here. We are taught the importance of cleanliness and our temples are always squeaky clean. But these public places, where they bathe to ‘wash-off’ their sins, they’re filthy as hell. You see? Hell near the temple doesn’t add up. They don’t notice the fact that they’re piling up filth in the name of ‘washing away’.

          1. The government is working on it even now but how much of the filth can they clean away when millions of people dip themselves everyday? The clean Ganga project is ongoing but futile to an extent because of contaminants.

            2. I can’t argue about the authenticity of the video but it is true that bodies are burnt on the banks of the river where cemeteries are located. Ganga river is a long one and this contamination happens only in a tiny part of it. It’s sad that beliefs are hard to change and in some cases, impossible.

            5. “The earth is full and enough to spare ” They give no thought at all to depleted resources or air pollution. Use it up, cause gods going to come save us as soon as Things get bad enough. Some sects encourage it. Even the Mormons have Utah so polluted if it wasn’t for the EPA, the air would be worse that in was in the 80’s. It was horrible with mining smelters and steel mills. Mine it, cut it, burn it, and store everyone else’s nuclear waste for a profit. It’s bad in different ways than the river.

        2. Paradox/Contradictions; how to find them and THEN what to do about them in order to progress and better insure that your/our descendents have at least the SAME odds of survival or happiness that we’ve had, fought for, and enjoyed. 🤔

  4. And there’s an irony too. We’re not permitted to enter a temple with footwear on but allowed to bathe in water and contaminate.😂
    It’s way beyond anyone’s control now. Disrespecting the nature is disrespect to God, I hope theists get that. The world is full of ironic instances.

      1. You know, I can forgive the ancients for their scientific ignorance of waterborne pathogens. It’s the moderns who wear it as a badge of honor that I have problems with — the ones who claim that empirical evidence is inferior to the revealed truths of those same ancients.

          1. They don’t care because they believe Jesus is coming real soon now to destroy this planet anyways. One apostolic visitor to Nan’s blog uses “Waiting for His return, His glorious return” as a subtitle for his blog and recently posted a series of verses under the heading “I Pray For the Return of Christ”. It wouldn’t surprise me if he/she cheers on foreign policy initiatives that bring us ever closer to their cherished final Armageddon.
