Agenda Driven Earth Day

As a Christian earth day was touted as another oppressive tactic by the left to raise taxes and submit personal freedoms. The right wing propagandize it as a ‘hippie-dancing-around-the-may-pole’ pagan earth worship day. My church stayed neutral officially, but the overtones were obvious enough to cause discussion amongst the members. Wow! How wrong they were! Earth day has been a tremendous success! I was in first grade on the very first earth day I can remember. We planted a tree in the courtyard of our new school, all as a group we surrounded the event and it was a fun moment. I cannot really tell you anything else that happened in first grade. Go plant a tree! Create a memory. Love your home and show it. I have planted numerous trees since that first day. Happy Earth Day!!

Much more on earth day origins here with Eileen Thanks for the idea.

  1. The values of the Silent Generation were shaped by the Great Depression and World War II. Baby Boomers came of age during the feminist and sexual revolution, the civil rights movement, and the Vietnam War. The youngest adult generation—the Millennials—were the last to be born in the 20th century. They are the first “digital natives,” growing up with computers, the Internet, and social media.

  2. Holly Maddux would have enjoyed earth day. But one of the founders is rotting in jail for murdering her.
Another version of not practicing what people preach. That’s why I thumb my nose at earth day.

    1. That makes no sense. What you seem to be saying is because humans have made mistakes I won’t be involved with an attempt to enlighten humans in environmental dangers and problems. The idea of Earth day goes way beyond its founders, and it is entirely about the needs of the environment and how we humans can fix the problem and make the planet better for all of us. Hugs

        1. It’s just a me thing Scottie, I don’t like “special days” I personally celebrate every day and do my best for trying to be a good person for others and the environment. Earth day, Christmas, Valentine’s Day and so on make me cringe.
People rise up to be an activist for the day or a Christian for the day instead of it being an every single day thing.

          1. Sadly people need special days or the majority forgets what the emphasis is for and they tend to get sloppy, take the easier way, simply put off doing something. We have to fight our worst natures to promote a better way and that takes making special days and celebrations for things that matter. Hugs

            1. Plus those special days , the marked ones help reach new people who wouldn’t have understood the reasons for actions before. So I think the celebration days are important. Hugs

            2. See, that’s the thing that gets me. People who come out strong on one day. One day! They want to be seen and then go off about their ways. It reminds me of people dressed up in their Sunday finest and then as soon as church lets out they go back to their old ways.
I get it Scottie, yes people need reminding and a special day because they might have the attention span of an amoeba.
You have a great big heart my friend. I do understand what you are saying.
For Jim and I it starts at home. We teach our children how to be better people through example. I know not all people do that and hence we need token days like today. It’s just a sad reminder for me today of how things are. I’m might be an earth day grinch in a way. I wish it were different and people had it as a way of life instead of treating today like going to church on Easter Sunday.

            3. I consider earth day like a reboot. Get people motivated again. Reminders are good and I am reminded about the berry bushes. Lol. Although I do hear that 364 days a year.

            4. I think you forget how special you are. Both of you. You have done and are doing, things most people won’t. It is grand that you do not see how special and valuable you are. Most of us, myself included need reminders. I get too busy with other things, pulling into stuff I should just pass over, or worked up over things that really do not matter in the end.
You passed on to your children a better way. Most of the planet do not have such great parents and motivators. There are more than I was aware of but still not enough. Maybe you do not get told often enough, but thank you for being a thinking caring person. Hugs

            5. I have to be less of a battle axe today. lol I posted before having my coffee. Jim should have hidden my phone as a step in intervention.
Jim said today is a reboot and I can accept that. Scottie you have strengths that you share every single day. You have a kind approach and are thoughtful. In your own way you earth day to me. You helped me not to be a negative, salty and grinchy person.
Your thoughtful and gentle ways help people to clean up their bad attitudes. That’s not just a today thing for you but a way of life and I thank you for the reminder to be positive. 💐🌎💐

    2. Sure, murder is bad. But the police reports claim he tried composting her remains rather than throwing them in the dumpster. So there’s that to consider. :/

  3. I recently came to know one such day exists. I know I might sound like a fool but what are right and left wings? My political knowledge is very poor and restricted to what comes in the news.

    1. Right and left are political terms to describe your positions. Left is typically progressive, accepting of new ideas and more tolerant of minority groups. Right is more traditional, hangs on the the past and pushes religious views into government. Personally, I sit just left of the center right now. A socialist country would be far left, Muslim/Christian ideals are far right. Force is used to generate compliance. They tout freewill, but try to take it from you by forcing traditional “values” into your life.

        1. It’s about 50/50 here. But as a country it’s more of both sides than most places. Pretty evenly split, but more conservative overall than say, Scandinavian countries or Middle East.

          1. I think we also need to look at the vocal or loud voices in the mix of all this. It seems that there is a very vocal section of people / groups that would like people to think they are a far bigger percentage of the population than they really are. They try to claim to be a majority without in fact showing any proof of that other than their loud in your face stance. That does sway issues here in this country more than it should. Hugs

            1. True. During the revolution it is estimated that about 10% were in favor of it. Good points Scotty. Sometimes it takes a jolt to get people to think

  4. Great point. Earth day is really relevant to each person rather than a big theoretical argument. The fact is the small things each of us can do add up to a huge benefit for the Earth and all on it. Most of us can not get or help the really big issues, but by doing our part on the small ones, we do actually help solve the big problems. Hugs

    1. “Doing” is your key word here, and each one of us 8billion can work wonders if we just take care of our own responsibility. Great comment Scotty!! Earth day hugs to you too.

      1. One of the things that I notice is lawn watering. Florid went through a bad drought and we still have less water than we need for the population we have. Add to the problem are the increases in population. The issue is rather than seeing the problem and reducing unnecessary water usage, people use more to keep the lawns green, the plants watered, their cars washed, all with no regard to the fact the supply is limited. This is especially prevalent wit people new to Florida. No one is talking starting on steps to increase the existing water resources. Hugs

        1. Water is a concern here in much of the west too. Look up Hoover dam and lake mead and look at the water levels. It takes years to fill this lake, and they have had to modify the dam so water could actually continue to be used for electricity. The Colorado river is struggling year after year. 40 million people depend on that one river. Amazing

          1. The situation in Cape Town South Africa should be a wake call for all of us. We need clean water to live. That simple. Hugs

          2. So how to wake people up. In my area people are far more concerned with their comfort and their status than they are with the future. The environment is a nebulous thing to them pushed by activists lefties. Hugs

            1. Yes, it starts with each of us in small ways and builds to what we would call the new normal way to treat the resources of the planet. Hugs

        2. Being another Floridian, I agree. Two things that would help would be a heat and drought tolerant groundcover and some shade trees and less development ( which isn’t going to change..too much $ involved.).

          1. Yes. Mary I had a neighbor who redid his lawn with the environment in mind, Plants that needed less water, ground cover that needed no water, statues and things. It looked great. But people complained. Hugs

            1. The babcock range thing ahs been on and off development for years. I have had good hopes and some bad ones depending on the development ideas pushed. I wish the state had bought it and turned it into a refuge, the site is huge. I have never taken the tour and I should as it is close by to us. On desalination I know the navy used it on ship when I was in the Navy. I know some Middle East countries use it. I think we seriously need to investigate it here. Hey do you remember when Bush ( I think it was Bush ) tried to sell the water rights in Florida to a private company? What a nightmare we barely escaped then. Hugs
