Tokens for Faith—The Carnelian

Would a Christian be willing to test his own faith with the same methods they dismiss other superstition?

Beset the shifting, sliding darkness my seer-stone has been polished smooth by the friction of my cotton-lined pocket—and the relentless downward stroke of my thumb. She has traveled the years of my world idly doing her fortuitous task, tirelessly emitting it’s magical energies to guide—to protect and strengthen me. All the proof needed? I am still here, alive against many odds. It’s a miracle in true aggregate. The once rough, slightly chiseled edges are now smooth and pearly soft as it has molded me all these years to gradually be its equal—and solid.

While skimming rocks across the deep current one stone must always remain—partnered in my right pocket never to take flight. It alone guards me with a curious protection and wisdom only known to those who understand such things. My belief is proof, trued to me and secured these 50+ years—The carnelian, a mixture of silicas, chalcedony, and impurities of iron oxide combine to protect me from negative energies of the universe and give me power. In spite if its bloody tone it allows me to see things. My thoughts and ideas I credit to her, for out of nowhere they arise without explanation.

Fearing the day I feel to find it missing—frisking for its whereabouts will be a day of anxiety, tragedy, and despair swiftly leading to my misfortune (it’s happened, believe me) Although life has dealt me twists and turns of affliction, how much worse might things have been without her? I will carry her to the next world in my ashes.

Today I am home with the winter sun-beam reflecting, blinding, snow-white as my carnelian (or possibly I am hers) recharges in the window sill. Winters are hard to rejuvenate its magic, but as luck would have it, today was a brilliant time to be home. She sits collecting cosmic energies in a metal bucket of sage and lavender, primed by the radiant sun to guide me another day, or week. Then, by the light of the nights full moon, the transference and cleansing completes the cycle. A Full Moon can clear a crystal’s negative energy and recharge the positive energies it holds, with the right intentions, of course. I won’t leave home without it.

—Carnelian crystal represents the hot cauldron of the lower three chakras. It’s associated with taking bold action with its fiery spirit that stimulates the root chakra, helping circulate vital energy to your center, which contains your deepest sexual desires and powerful creative instincts. Whenever you’re called on to perform, carnelian will embolden your abilities.

Is it this belief in things that makes us bold, or a weakness that empowers humans to accept chance as its guide through faith? The evidence in the power of the carnelian (or any other proper mineral) surpasses all modern religious dogma. Esoteric and divining crystals, white magic, oracles, witchcraft, shamanism, reiki—curanderos more valid than the religious options of the day. In reality the power is in ourselves. Believing strength comes through other sources may be easier to accept than self empowerment. That means personal responsibility.

Think about that, while I go consult the bones…

  1. Lovely post. I am surrounded by many rocks and minerals, some pretty, some beautiful in their mere existence. I was a geologist in a former life, and am an Empress of the skies in this one so I know all about these things of course. I hope your bones told you good things, be sure to keep them in your skin. *beams*

  2. May your talisman of choice bring you stones of happy enlightenment and keep the evil ones in the other Washington. I’m not sure if you’re hacking my computer, reading my mail, or telepathically conjuring my thoughts, but I’ve been writing about such attachments. Remember, there are no coincidences. Need some good woo-woo music playing now.

    1. There is a whole other realm of beliefs and practices I know very little about. I know some people that are really into it, but I am just an observer. Glad you liked it!

  3. It’s best to research which crystals and stones work best with you. Take the time to go to any esoteric store and feel them out. See which ones you are drawn to. I love mine. Clean them with sage, charge them accordingly with the elements that work for each.

  4. Magic stones are great! Although not quite as rewarding as magic beans now that I think about it. And also, potentially, the least helpful of the magical talismans when drowning… you know, as opposed to magic buoyancy (for example)… but other than that minor niggle… I approve of your choice of phylactery.

    1. Lol. And I yours! Niggle is always superb when I can fit it in. I never thought of magic beans—I’ll have to try that one. A bit abstruse today are we?

      1. I apologize for my abstrusitude. I sometimes just assume everyone is on the same extremely low frequency as me (usually about 7Hz). [Jo suddenly realizes why his blog isn’t gaining traction] Oh!!

        1. Maybe it got no traction because it’s in traction? I could give you some tips to get more but I couldn’t do that to any of my friends. No really, everyone please click Jo’s blog. Very entertaining and occasionally crass (usually)

          1. Ha ha. Don’t listen to him. He’s been overworked lately (hows that going btw). Followers actually make me quite anxious. Especially atheists (because they’re smarter than average) Besides now I have this added concern about the crass to content ratio therewith in. *Jo flounces off* You’re messing up my day Jim!

            1. Oh… I just always assumed that you felt sorry for me and that I was your charity case. You know, toss me a like now and then… and maybe a comment if you’re feeling particular generous.

To be honest its been good for my self esteem.

  5. I’m so glad you’ve found a talisman to carry your spiritual energy around. It’s so good to have something to credit (and blame) for everything that happens to you. But a rabbit’s foot is so much warmer and softer, don’t you think?

    1. Supposed to be lucky, but I’d think the rabbit would disagree. Fertility isn’t high in my priority theses days either, but in years past I must’ve carried two!!

  6. “I will consult the bones!” … “The bones tell me nothing…” (High Aldwyn – Willow) If widom does not come from within then it isn’t wisdom, just more false hope.

      1. Low blow, Jim… I’ve known some Virglecuts’ in my days, politically speaking – nasty, unpleasant, slimy characters. Just give me Mad Martigan and let us go for a toboggan ride down some mountain side and then after… some nice dry straw…

  7. Ahh, talismans have always fascinated me Jim! I had no idea you were into this ancient bioelectrical and mineral “connections” 🙂 It is most definitely a discipline/field of elemental and planetary forces because after all, living things, us, animals… we all have electrical charges! From the University of Maryland GSA:

Electricity is everywhere, even in the human body. Our cells are specialized to conduct electrical currents. Electricity is required for the nervous system to send signals throughout the body and to the brain, making it possible for us to move, think and feel.

Is it any mystery WHY paramedics have defibrillators on their ambulances — CLEAR!!! 😛 — or when we walk across a lot of carpeted floors or sit in fabric car-seats then touch a metal object and SNAP! That cool, white-blueish flash between your finger/hand and the metal represents the electrical currents/energy we all possess.

A disruption in electrical currents can lead to illness. For example, in order for the heart to pump, cells must generate electrical currents that allow the heart muscle to contract at the right time. Doctors can even observe these electrical pulses in the heart using a machine, called an electrocardiogram or ECG. Irregular electrical currents can prevent heart muscles from contracting correctly, leading to a heart attack. This is just one example showing the important role of electricity in health and disease.

Ugh… that reminds me, I’ll be going into the doctor’s office to have this sort of check-up of how my bioelectric levels are performing, charging, and firing off in and at proper voltages. LOL 😉 😛 I hate it when they must take a vile of blood though; if they/we aren’t careful, I can pass out. 😦

    1. I’m not into it too much really, but a certain Latina I know has a lot of knowledge about it. It does however, make more sense than a god. Great comment sir! Ya know the Mormon founder Smith was really into these things, so I am pretty familiar with talismans and peep stones.

      1. Well, I think that highly positive-charged “certain Latina” knows what’s REALLY going on and how to properly maintain your batteries cuz I have some doubts about YOUR abilities Jim! 🤣😈

        1. I will consult the bones again. Trying to figure out the metaphysicalatina is a quite another paradigmatic quandricalized science project. My stones are pretty happy though…

          1. Yes! Let’s just hope those rocks in your head don’t move down and turn into kidney stones!!! There are SOME stones in us Neanderthal men that should NOT be turned, but remain still, inactive, and firmly in our craniums, yes!? We Stone Age men know how to be smart and NOT embarrassed by the superior gender! 😉 😛

    1. Yes dear, but I have it on good authority that this is much more realistic than religion. Why do you think the churches abolished all this? It gave people power over their own lives, whether real or imagined, it was their course to chart.

  8. Jim, have you heard of the Japanese attachment to rocks? Suiseki. Many Japanese collect rocks out of ancient river beds. The idea is that ancient rocks, those that have been formed over millions upon millions of years by erosion and/or explosion are a true source of positive energy. Suiseki is also connected with bonsai; hence the placement of stones and as well as their shape is of utmost importance to elicit the desired effect: serenity and calm.

I have to say this post definitely resonated with me. Thanks.
