A-theism—Order of Operations Explained

International zealot of the month—and his 30 followers.

Matt—Atheism can’t exist without theism. You can’t deny a God who doesn’t exist. Therefore, atheism is proof of God.

Me—Atheism is actually proof the writers were wrong. Man can be tempted more than he can bear. And BTW, atheism precedes theism so your argument is fallacious. I only learned I was a worthless sinner and needed god from missionaries telling me so. I was born atheist.

Mattie—A- is a prefix to theism, it modifies it to mean the opposite.
Therefore A-theism can’t exist without theism.
Learn how words work.

Me—The word theist may precede the word atheist, nothing more. Theists that criticize the limitations of speech lack common sense (faith again). You have no argument. I was born atheist as you were. You just take the bait—I don’t. Wordsmithing doesn’t change the order of operations.

Mattie—If you were born an atheist why does God bother you so much?

Me—There is no god to bother me. Evidence however, would actually kill faith. You still have faith, therefore you have no evidence. Truth 1:3

Matt—Dude, we just reconciled the Bible with ALL physical evidence and empirical observations. I hope the hole in the sand where you keep your head is comfortable.

Me—I’m quite comfortable watching you unwind.

Matt—That’s called whining.
Your desperation is palpable.

After losing on the word atheist he quickly came unwound to insults. His site is fringful wishes to prove the Bible through science. Might be interesting if the hate and ignorance wasn’t so “palpable”. Cheap entertainment if you have a moment.

Careful to engage, it gets ugly fast. Put colorstorm and branyan together in a bottle of steroids on LSD and voilet! But you can judge for yourself (unless you’ve already submitted your brain to god)

    1. I had some free time. It turned into a lot of free time I’ll never get back. He has unlocked the code to world history and nobody but him friggin gets it! Because they’re stupid

    2. That is my approach, as well. At a recent family gathering, I was having a delightful conversation with a new acquaintance when she said, “I don’t know if you believe in the Word of God…” and I simply said, “No.” Not being emotional or belligerent. So she says, “Well it takes some people longer than others to get the message.” After that little jab, she implies some bad thing will happen to me and THEN I will understand why I need god. 😆 And with that little curse, she decided I wasn’t worth talking to anymore. I said nothing at all through this. My husband thinks my original answer should have been “Which one?” Boy, do I not want to go there!!

      1. Sometimes I’m ready to go there, but sometimes I just want to shut down the religion conversation as quickly as possible. (When I’m wanting to shut it down, sometimes I’ll go with “my religious views are private and I don’t discuss them.” I’ve gotten rid of more than one door-knocking preacher that way.)

      2. ah, the classic Christian who has to depend on ignorance and fear. They are all about their little threats, and when called on them, whine that it’s not them, its their god who is making the threats. They are the classic “I was only following orders” vermin.

  1. Well done, Jim. You managed to maintain your level-headed argument even if in the face of sophmoric condescension and you prevailed. It’s not “god” we need to worry about per se, it’s what men decide he wants them to do that always culminates in some of the worst atrocities in history. The cool-aide drinkers are, largely, ignorant of the religion they put so much of their faith in. And we don’t get it; it’s like joining a club without knowing anything about the mission, rules, membership, funding sources or almost anything else. And yet they are convinced it’s all real. Furthermore, they aren’t the least bit aware of many – most, actually – of the laws actually required of them to observe as Christians. If they were they would find out just how very “un-Christian” they actually are. But ignorance be damned, they’re going with the old white the guy up in the clouds. And they think THEY’RE the rational ones!

    1. I did offer to look over his theory but his MAGA hat was covering his ears. You bring up a good point. A true believer would behave like god is in the room with them watching every move. Perhaps that’s how he justified his behavior though. Just doing what the father does.

  2. It’s a real crock argument. As if denying that something non existent does not exist makes the non existent real…?!?!? But I’m not surprised, I’ve had to sit quietly and listen to fuddlementalist preachers fork out their brain mushing manure too many times to be surprised at how these ‘faith’ types try to make themselves comfortable in their manure at the expense of others. I can write this here but I learned long go the pointlessness of arguing, much less trying to have a logical discussion with the “MGGA” mad hatters. (MGGA: Make God Great Again, except they can’t make nothing that was never great into any sort of “Again” and that’s what drives them to pace on the edge, ranting and slobbering – sorry, memories!)

  3. Here’s one of favorites: “Matt—Dude, we just reconciled the Bible with ALL physical evidence and empirical observations. I hope the hole in the sand where you keep your head is comfortable.” The archeological record contains almost no evidence that the early “history” described in the Bible ever happened at all. There are countless books on the subject.

    1. Well like the exodus, they just haven’t found the real time and place. I was serious though about finding evidence. I wish they would—it would end faith and end the side effects humanity has suffered because of beliefs.

      1. They are so silly. The Bible itself testifies that any evidence or proof of biblical truth spells the end of faith. Who needs faith when there is proof? Would that be the opposite of catch-22 situation? Every time evidence is found for a biblical claim it disproves the bible as the word of God…?

            2. Look on the bright side, Jim; at least for the time being they don’t have the political clout to have us all burned alive at the stake or to stone us to death. In some places they can still do it, and do on a regular basis. In Iran and Saudi Arabia they still crucify people. It’s a great world, the world of god, isn’t it? Who wouldn’t love it? A christian friend of mine wanted to talk about my relationship to god a while back. I said, god and I aren’t getting along at all and why don’t we leave it at that before I really dump on you? He got the message. I don’t follow any Christian blogs because I learned long ago that arguing with a faith based individual is like arguing with a tractor that’s coming right at you. The tractor won’t swerve, or re-think its motives: it’s a programmed machine. All I can do is jump out of the way. I do admire you guys for going in there and engaging. Rawgod is wrong in this case, I think. Since there is no bloodshed, all that can get hurt is feelings, and if some bit of common sense or wisdom is spread in those blogs, who knows? They preach to convert people to their beliefs, why can’t it go both ways? What if one of you guys demonstrates beyond any reasonable doubt that they are wrong? They may still argue against you and disagree but they can’t wipe out the evidence they are faced with. I think you are very courageous.

  4. Mattie—A- is a prefix to theism, it modifies it to mean the opposite.

No, the prefix “a” means “not” or “without.” Atheism means “without theism.”

Matt—Atheism can’t exist without theism. You can’t deny a God who doesn’t exist. Therefore, atheism is proof of God.

No, both theism and atheism are abstract concepts which do not convey any empirical proof whatsoever. What Matt is asserting here is a rationalization, and a very poor one at that.

Matt—Dude, we just reconciled the Bible with ALL physical evidence and empirical observations.

That’s a totally fallacious statement. The existence of the Bible (which is a collection of various texts written by mortal men) does not constitute empirical evidence of God nor has any empirical evidence of god(s) ever been discovered.

    Jim—I was born atheist.

True. All human beings are born without theism. Theism is an ideology which must be learned. In fact, Homo sapiens existed for many thousands of years before any recorded evidence of worship in deities was found. Astrolatry (e.g. Sun worship) was first recorded during the Neolithic Period (@ 10,000 to 3,000 BCE), polytheism and quasi-monotheistic beliefs (e.g. Zoroastrianism) were first recorded during the Bronze Age (@ 3,000 to 1,000 BCE), and the first true monotheistic religion (Judaism) wasn’t recorded until the 2nd century BCE.

  5. Truthfully, I am getting tired of all the fighting. Is it really worth our time to stand up for ourselves?
When I was a kid I was attacked by every bully in school. My best defence was letting them try to beat the shit outta me. I would not swing back no matter what they said or did. It did not take them long to lose interest. Bullies get their kicks from showing how strong they are against those who fight back. When someone does not fight back, but absorbs the beatings and walks away, the bully gets no satisfaction.
I know, I get involved in these atheist vs theist fights, but I end up hating myself for it. I know they cannot defeat me. I don’t know why I bother.

      1. Each to their own. I wasn’t quite thinking of it that way when I asked if it was worth your time. What I was really asking was about the total effect on people who spend time fighting, and hating. What does that do to your health, especially your mental health?
I am a pacifist, and always have been. But for the longest time I took pacifism to be a physical thing, not committing physical violence against amother person. But now in my senior years, I am realizing that it is spiritual violence that is what does the most harm. (By spiritual, I do not mean religious, or any kind of belief-based existence. I am talking about the wholeness of life: body, mind, spirit.) In my opinion, a true pacifist should not involve themselves in any kind of violence. It harms all parties.
That is all I have to say.

Your straw man is believing that because we have modern conveniences that there is no better way. We can still have doctors and medicines without the corrupt institutions, insurance companies and pharma rip offs. We will realize one day that there was a better and simpler way to have all these things without wrecking the world.

And if you have shelter, but you don’t have food, and therefore you don’t have good health, is that civilized? I know it is little use saying this to you, club, but this is not intended for you. You have given me a forum, for which I thank you. There are billions of people on our planet who do not benefit from your civilization. They are the ones I try to talk for. 6. Notice the language used. The word “deny” is one that they like to use in this kind of argument. As if their position were firm and established. It immediately puts the other party on the defensive. The Christians always were good at linguistic games. Just look at some of their older arguments in the church fathers and you will see a great display of linguistic contortions and tricks.

I have seen the argument here used before. “You can’t deny something that doesn’t exist, hence what you are denying must exist” is the basic form of it. If everyone accepts this logic, it can be used for just about anything. Christians “deny” all sorts of things, so you would think they would avoid this logic. Christians can’t deny Krishna if he doesn’t exist, so Krishna is the avatar of Vishnu. Just fill in the blanks, many examples would suffice. People might deny that a mountain made of sugar exists, but if they deny this it must exist because they can’t deny something that doesn’t exist.

    1. Wow that makes it easy! Anything I can accuse of existence then must actually exist the moment it is denied—resembles the final word in many, many Christian arguments. Belief makes it their truth. I’m beginning to think the source of truth isn’t Christianity? Hehe

Are you serious Jim? This Matt person is using the imperfect, limited English language — which originated from 5th – 6th century CE Old English which itself originated from Germany, the Netherlands, and Denmark and of course has some of its roots in Latin — a LINGUISTIC exercise to establish his God’S existence!? BWAHAHAHAHAHA!!! 🤣

That is an extremely weak premise to start upon. Is there more context to this debate that would put Matt-person into a more slightly worthy standing to consider engaging in this controversy?

    1. Hopped over there to Mattie’s mental asylum and wrote this. It’s in moderation of course, HAH!

A Vast Plethora of Contradictions & Errors in the New Testament!

      • Jesus’ ancestry in Matthew and Luke is anything but certain!

      • The geneologies of Joseph are not critical to true Second Temple Messianism.

      • Matthew includes FOUR women in Joseph’s geneology, again unimportant in Second Temple Messianism.

      • The angel in Matthew does not align with Mark 3:20-21 and 6:4-6.

      • The date/year Jesus was born was somehow two different times! Read Matthew 2:1 and Luke 2:2. Which is it!? What IS known and proven is that Quirinius did not become governor of Syria until well after Herod’s death. Both gospels are wrong.

      • Where was Jesus born? Read Micah 5:2, Matthew 2:6; 2:21-23, and Luke 2:4. These three gospel passages demonstrate the copyist were clueless about the real purposes and application of Roman taxation and censuses.

      • Fulfilled prophecies? No. Isaiah 7:14 says the name of the Messiah was to be Immanuel, not Jesus. Jeremiah 31:15 and Matthew have nothing related. The weeping for infanticide is for the Israelites about to be taken into exile in Babylon, not little boys over centuries later. Matthew is a complete fabrication and distortion of Jer. 31.

      • Matthew 2:15 and Hosea 11:1 contradict each other. The trip into Egypt, the stay in Egypt, and the exit out of Egypt all had to happen within a 40-day period because the Magi (Persians/Arabians) from the East visit Bethlehem BEFORE the slaughter of little boys! This actually did not happen.

      • Matthew’s most colossal duck-up: Matthew 21:1-7. The copyists/editors of Matthew (Greco-Roman) clearly did not understand Second Temple Messianism/Prophecy. Zechariah 9:9 is therefore butchered from its true meaning. Matthew is a prime example of blatant retro-fitting/retro-grading ANY Old Testament passages into “fulfilled prophecy.”

And the problems, contradictions, and errors go on and on and on. Read the rest of them here, or most any scholarly website or in a public library:

      https://infidels.org/library/modern/paul_carlson/nt_contradictions.html

No, clearly Mattie, the 4th-century CE Hellenic canonical New Testament IS NOT the least bit reliable. Period. Finding these facts simply requires more legwork and equitable homework by “Faith-believers,” which is another word for LAZY.

What does it profit a man to quarrel with a presuppositionalist and forfeit his peace of mind?

    ‘Tis a fool’s errand, methinks!

      1. From my point of view it’s a fun game of tether ball. I sense no hate or rancor and time is everyone’s private possession to do with as they see fit. So one kid stays at the foot of the pole claiming the ball is god while the rest go on to something else more interesting like watching ants in the school yard… it’s really up to the school counselor to deal with that brainwashed kid at the tether ball post…

  11. On Matt’s page there is a section called ‘Hell is Expanding’. Apparently Hell is in the centre of the earth which can be scientifically proven and that global warming is actually caused by Hell expanding. The hilarity of this post bought tears to my eyes.

        1. Lots and lots of con going on to get someone to yarn the Bible into a global warming tale. I’m sure the they’ll find versus to explain everything in the world. Ambiguity will do that.

  12. I noticed the top comment here about hell expanding. Well, no doubt I may partly to blame for that. My posting of the “Why Worry” plaque may have caused some to rather spend whatever after life shaking hands with friends as opposed to just do eternity praising some made up god.
If any hell expnsion is due to my posting, well, I accept credit but wish nothing other than we all treat those other humans and furry critters the way we want to be treated.

  13. I sometimes wonder if the religion causes the crazy or if the crazy is the cause of the religion… There are so many of these self appointed experts in BS out there, unwavering in their superiority, ever confident in their wild ass assertions with zero supporting evidence, locked up in a narrow, bigoted, and downright hateful existence. It is sad to see to some extent, and at the same time laughable to a degree.

I had Nigel is a teapot throwing darts at me yesterday over at Ubi’s place. Making wild ass assertions with no supporting evidence, as if it were all proven fact. And then, the crank with his pet theory, believes just because they said (stoopid) we should accept that they have it right. What seems an obvious truth to them, is ridiculous to the rest of us.

The line between reality and fantasy is pretty damn fuzzy in some peoples heads. I suppose they sleep well with all of the jumping back and forth across the fence thoughout the day.

I haven’t heard back from him yet, and frankly I’d rather not.

    1. I think this is what happens when you are convinced to believe before you can think. The urgency is real to them and then spend much of their life trying to prove something they should have never believed in the first place.

      1. That ranks fairly high as a pretty good explanation for what we are seeing.

        In simpler terms, mind**cked.

Sorry Jim, me and my f bombs 🙂 I self edited though, my step one to being less f bomb prone, it is a work in progress)

        1. This is free press. It’s good to vent now and then in moderation. Careful staring into the abyss too long—It may stare back at you.

          1. Yeah, I have learned to only flirt with the abyss and only for short periods of time. It’s **cking creepy 😉

Supposed to be between 105 and 109 heat index here today. Think you can send some good mountain air this way?

The car desperately needs washing and I have decided it can wait. Being married to a nurse has the side effect of the car rarely sitting still long enough to keep it clean.

I think I’ll play some guitar in the air conditioning today. In between short bursts of housework and important Playstation stuff 🙂 I am NOT going out there.

  14. Dear Jim ♡ ♡

It has been forever since I have left a comment behind. I have stopped discussing with people altogether because of the simple fact; it is more important to be kind than to be right. To me God is ultimate kindness and this is what he says about HumanKind; be both ♡ ♡

    1. Nice comment, Isabella, but you must know a different “God” than the one I got to know through Christianity as practiced (or not) around me throughout my life. It has been said, and I believe quite accurately, that every believing individual relates to a personal ‘god’ totally different than any one else’s ‘god’. That is why your ‘God’ is kind whereas the one I was taught about was a certifiable monster, and the proof of that can be found no farther away than the bible on the shelf if it’s read chronologically and with an open mind.

      1. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and experience. I am sorry for the negative experiences you had,. I am going abroad for a week so I will not be able to respond for a while. There is truth in your comment, and we can both see the problem linked to the core of our very existence and perception; everything is relative. There are as many interpretations as to whom a person (and God) is as there are people who know that person. We also play our parts as if we are on a giant stage. For instance my children see me as “mom” something completely different from say a sister, daughter, friend or wife. In conclusion there are as many different versions of me as there are humans that know me. All of them piecemeal. We all try to paint a picture of each other (and life) based on limited information. In this everybody measure and judge each other, and turn against one other. Judging and measuring the way I see it is one the most dangerous things one can do. The way we measure tells us more about ourselves than the person we are weighing. So, this is the trap that our species fall into and it is very sad. In my experience many Christians are so blinded in this self-made trap that I do not know whether to scream or cry when I am around them. However, truth is never altered by human interpretation. It is what it is! So, you and I might disagree on whether a God exist not to mention his characteristics. Still that does not change the truth beyond it all. As much as I cannot believe a God into existence nor can an atheist or agnostic believe a God out if that is the truth beyond the mystery. Thank you for your comment and if you are patient enough to wait for my replies I look forward to reading more of your thoughts. ♡ ♡
