I am not an atheist—I just don’t believe in God. Religion has left me no choice. Being an atheist I don’t believe in this god and that is the standard paradigm. But if I have to believe, it doesn’t exist. No belief between anyone is a consistent description of anything. Nothing is consistent except by memorization, but those aren’t your perceptions of god. They are a consensus of ambivalent confusions.
If God is omnipotent, omnipresent, omniscient, and omni-everything to encapsulate an unrestrained supreme deity, what then, could be in the universe that is not god? Your superlatives betray your doctrine.
The Hebrew god is all these attributes. But really, with all these elucidations only creates more confusion. It would have to be everything, including you as an extension of it. There is no line it doesn’t cross, no realm it doesn’t permeate, no organism it isn’t. Christians are actually pantheist or deists, if you carry the logic beyond its restricted norms, using their own adjectives. According to their own terms, everything is god, (except for you), right?
Traditionally, expressing this knowledge about yourself would be blasphemous enough to get you killed, condemned, or at least excommunicated. It’s hard to control people that knew their divine reality. But really what this knowledge does is put the game in jeopardy. Who would put up with this bullshit if they knew the truth? There is only one power the sim possess—it can shut itself off.
It is not my fault I don’t believe in this god described by the majority religions. It falls short on its own argument and modifiers. If it were real I wouldn’t have to believe it, have to convince myself and others of its existence, because unless you were it, something so distinct from you would be as plain as the nose on your face. If it were distinct from you it would be obvious and unavoidable that this god existed, yet no one can see it. Can a program detect the programmer? Can the curser see the mouse? Dammit!
If there is a god it does not know it. The same as if you were god and do not know it. There would be nothing outside of itself to contrast, just as there is no thing outside of you you could call god without it also being you.
No, there is no deity outside of you or it is not a deity, unless this is a simulation and we just can’t see the programmer through the impulses and diodes. If we did see that god we would find he is an intelligent creature that has no remorse for his sims, and can play and play the loop in the game that causes the most trivial of killing sprees where all his characters have multiple lives.

I have similar questions and condemnations for God, yet concede that I’m ignorant of reality. That all there is to know isn’t known.

What is the hardest thing to discover? Why can’t anything be known? Why is belief the modus operandi of reality? That last question doesn’t even make sense.

If god is “all-powerful”, then riddle me this. Can god create a stone so heavy even he/she/it cannot lift it? Answer yes or no and your god is not all-powerful!

I’m sure there is a good apologetics wheel somewhere you could spin. Care to give it a whirl? How would you answer that?

I would answer that with a stern, “Hell no!” I’m not apologizing for using common sense when it comes to any religions invisible sky god!

We have been trained in the west to think of the concept of god in a very nonsensical way. The other way is; big stone, must be mad by gods—or aliens. Nope. We’re a pretty ingenious bunch when we work together.

That is an interesting comment too. The way we are trained to think has also spilled over into science. Regular people believe in science more than the scientists and the truth is nothing is so cut and dry it should ever become dogmatic. That there are “laws” of nature is also a carryover from the law, which is a Hebrew concept. No such thing exists in nature.

Excellent summation, Jim. If God, all is God. All is not God, therefore no God.
You say you are not Atheist. I say I am. Even with my history, my LSD-opened mind, therecwas no God. Only Possibility! And all things were possible, except God.
What I found was life, and the greatest awareness life had about itself was it does not know anything — but it wants to know everything!
Sounds a bit like humans, doesn’t it!

Being an atheist is defined by what god is supposed to be. That doesn’t really equate for me. And yes, sounds human!

I have a similar issue with Christians who refuse to recognise that a claim is not necessarily evidence.

A moot point when the believer asserts their claims are evidence.

I don’t “believe” the definition depends on a god, other than that gods are supposed to be superior to humans in some way. My atheism is defined by disbelief in superior beings of any kind, including humans’ supposed superiority over animals. We are all living beings, hence we are all equal. Maybe I’m splitting hairs, but better splitting hairs than bunny rabbits.

SIDENOTE: The words you reference — omnipotent, omnipresent, omniscient — are NOT found anywhere in any religious texts. They are made up words by humans to describe their Big Guy in the Sky.

Yes. Good catch. I remember taking to Mel one day and I mentioned god is probably just an average god (look at the mess he made) and he replied “why would you want to worship a god that wasn’t perfect and indescribable? This is the attitude that created the platitudes.

Of course the reply by the non-believer would be … why worship any god at all? 😈

Yahweh isn’t the only God out there. He is the One that has been forced on people. But there are Others.
Problem with Monotheism(s) is that when you have only one God who determines morality, you have to figure out where the bad stuff come from. One thing is to push it on to the Other Guys i.e. calling Them Satan or whatnot. Then you don’t have to deal with your God and evil.
So this business with false Gods or whatever are simply Monotheists trying to do the two step.
From your friendly Polytheist, who doesn’t care what you believe or not.
BTW. Monotheism(s) have different Gods. Allah and Yahweh are not the same. So you have more Gods not to believe in.

@ jimoeba- The difficulty is that we are ready to hear scientific evidence and logical answers about origins of life and universe from atheist but each time we are disappointed that we cannot hear a convincing evidence and logical answer from secular scientists.

I am only an atheist to the common definitions and parameters set by Hebrew religion. On the other hand, if I have to believe something like this, it isn’t real and is arbitrary to interpretation. It may be an idea that I like but is not a belief. Why do you think the world operates on belief? Nothing at all is known.—or real in the sense we’ve been conditioned.

Who am I to believe in? Didn’t we just cover this in Bohr, Shroedinger, and Oppenheimer? If I have to believe in something means it is not real, or I wouldn’t have to believe in it. Sorting it out to make sense depends solely on which propaganda machine suits your style. I have been duped in the past and the present is no different. Everything is corrupt yet nothing at all is in error. It’s exactly as it could be.

Surviving this type of confusion changes nothing. I wouldn’t be unhappy about it—it’s the only thing we have to relieve the boredom of infinite living. The original state? You’re still in it. Imagining is the only option of a mind—and unplugging from it does nothing because you are no-thing.
You seem to think knowing some special insight can change that…but when you turn off the machine you see, there was never a you to begin with. When the organism flickers to off YOU, don’t go anywhere because you are already it.

It’s no surprise to me that men are becoming women—they mostly already are, but just don’t identify as such…yet. Manhood is relative to the culture we live in. Let me explain.
This might be a little long so bear with me.
I have spent my adult years providing for a good size family. I’ve built 6 of my own homes from he bottom up. I consider myself a pretty hard worker and can bust ass with the best. I am 60 now and in the middle of building a timber frame shop for my retirement years. I am working alone and put the ridge and porch beams up today. So this is me.
A few years ago I spent 4 years homesteading in the Panama jungle. It was very remote and scattered with local natives. I tried, but I could not keep up with them. They work at a level that embarrassed me and made me look like a child. There were many experiences I could illustrate, but just say that their problem solving skills and durable workability surpassed anyone I’d ever seen in the states. They don’t tire easily and they don’t seem to look at a task and judge it by any form of difficulty. They work like when I would night-hike to an alpine lake—unable to see the steepness of the terrain the hike was easy. This is the difference between men and boys, or women in this case.
This is the men I think of when I think what a man is supposed to be—problem solving hard working providers of a physical nature with multiple skill sets and honorable in their commitments. In the west we have men who are already women, but think they are men. They are weak, undependable, entitled children who’ve never had a rite of passage and whenever possible take the easy road.
In Panama I suggested a backhoe to dig a septic tank—the clay is too hard I said. They were offended. “Too hard, too hard for us?” They dug it by hand in the summer sun without complaint. It was a beautiful form of capable pride in their work and the indefatigable drive to care for their loved ones.
Masculinity and toxicity are words that don’t go together. They are opposing in their very nature. Masculinity would never be toxic. It can be. It’s like saying that white is black under certain conditions.
