Beset the shifting, sliding darkness my seer-stone has been polished smooth by the friction of my cotton-lined pocket—and the relentless downward stroke of my thumb. She has traveled the years of my world idly doing her fortuitous task, tirelessly emitting it’s magical energies to guide—to protect and strengthen me. All the proof needed? I am still here, alive against many odds. It’s a miracle in true aggregate. The once rough, slightly chiseled edges are now smooth and pearly soft as it has molded me all these years to gradually be its equal—and solid.

While skimming rocks across the deep current one stone must always remain—partnered in my right pocket never to take flight. It alone guards me with a curious protection and wisdom only known to those who understand such things. My belief is proof, trued to me and secured these 50+ years—The carnelian, a mixture of silicas, chalcedony, and impurities of iron oxide combine to protect me from negative energies of the universe and give me power. In spite if its bloody tone it allows me to see things. My thoughts and ideas I credit to her, for out of nowhere they arise without explanation.
Fearing the day I feel to find it missing—frisking for its whereabouts will be a day of anxiety, tragedy, and despair swiftly leading to my misfortune (it’s happened, believe me) Although life has dealt me twists and turns of affliction, how much worse might things have been without her? I will carry her to the next world in my ashes.
Today I am home with the winter sun-beam reflecting, blinding, snow-white as my carnelian (or possibly I am hers) recharges in the window sill. Winters are hard to rejuvenate its magic, but as luck would have it, today was a brilliant time to be home. She sits collecting cosmic energies in a metal bucket of sage and lavender, primed by the radiant sun to guide me another day, or week. Then, by the light of the nights full moon, the transference and cleansing completes the cycle. A Full Moon can clear a crystal’s negative energy and recharge the positive energies it holds, with the right intentions, of course. I won’t leave home without it.
—Carnelian crystal represents the hot cauldron of the lower three chakras. It’s associated with taking bold action with its fiery spirit that stimulates the root chakra, helping circulate vital energy to your center, which contains your deepest sexual desires and powerful creative instincts. Whenever you’re called on to perform, carnelian will embolden your abilities.
Is it this belief in things that makes us bold, or a weakness that empowers humans to accept chance as its guide through faith? The evidence in the power of the carnelian (or any other proper mineral) surpasses all modern religious dogma. Esoteric and divining crystals, white magic, oracles, witchcraft, shamanism, reiki—curanderos more valid than the religious options of the day. In reality the power is in ourselves. Believing strength comes through other sources may be easier to accept than self empowerment. That means personal responsibility.
Think about that, while I go consult the bones…
